Welcome

Welcome to the brand new web presence for the Labrador Institute Library and Archive!  “LILA Online” is our way of engaging digitally and continuing to share information resources, especially while we all stay at home to combat COVID-19.  This is a difficult time for research, as for so many other areas of life, but while our library and archive may be physically closed, the Labrador Institute is still here, and thanks to the wonders of modern technology, we even still have access to a good portion of our resources.  So keep your reference questions coming!

I’m your trusty program coordinator, Morgon, and I will be keeping up to date mainly through this blog, posting regular updates, Labrador trivia, research tips, and special features drawn from our collections and around the Internet.  You can reach me here or by email.

In case you don’t know me yet, allow me to introduce myself! I came to Happy Valley-Goose Bay from Toronto in 2007, having just finished a Master’s degree in English literature that I never imagined I would use professionally as an academic in Labrador.  After a few years, however, that’s just what happened in January 2010.  I have been working for Memorial University ever since, teaching off and on and running the Labrador Institute Library and Archive since 2012.

I’m also studying Labrador literature part-time for my PhD, so I’m a bit of a bookworm, and I’m always interested in learning more about local work.  (In fact, probably what I’m most looking forward to in this blog is my planned “Book of the Week” feature.  More on that soon!)  When I’m not working or studying you can find me in and around Happy Valley, usually with my daughter or my dog.  My favourite haunts include Melville Public Library, Birch Island (preferably in canoe!), and Kinsmen Park, especially during the Community Outdoor Market on Saturday mornings.

But enough about me—on to the content!  And let’s keep in touch.
